Coronavirus outbreak: Quebec government provides update on COVID-19 pandemic | LIVE 1

Quebec Premier François Legault and other officials provide their daily update on the province’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Legault said Thursday that the province had recorded three new deaths, as well as 907 new cases of COVID-19, which brings the total across Quebec to 5,518.

He said while one death is “one too many,” there are fewer deaths than in the U.S. or any European country. Legault added that based on projections, the province has enough ventilators to handle the expected peak of COVID-19 cases in his estimation.

After receiving continuing reports of social gatherings still taking place and non-essential businesses still operating, Legault said he had informed law enforcement in the province to be “less tolerant” on those breaking the rules surrounding self-isolation as part of COVID-19 measures. He said officers will issue more fines, which could range from $1,000 to $6,000.
